DGB chief demands higher earning thresholds and budget boost to support more students

Germany’s Federation of Trade Unions, the DGB, has demanded a full-on restructuring of the BAföG, the German government support system for students.

In light of the economic changes laid bare by the coronavirus pandemic, the DGB called for significantly higher rates of support for students and for a lower threshold to qualify. This, the unions said, would give students more security and increase the accessibility of higher education.
