Group issues guidance on equal opportunities in academia

Bukof recommends quotas and urges universities to be transparent over pay

A landmark report published last week supports quotas for academics with care responsibilities, to help increase the number of women who hold senior university posts.

The report said that gender quotas—where universities are required to hire a certain number of women—are useful in achieving equality, especially for new appointments and when filling leadership positions. The document was compiled by Bukof, Germany’s Federal Conference of Women and Gender Equality Representatives.
