Applied science universities urge support for foreign students

Academic institutions call for “paradigm shift” to improve transfer of talent into labour market

German universities of applied sciences have demanded “nothing less than a paradigm shift in political thinking”, in order to retain international students and feed the growing demand for skilled labour in Germany.

At present, around 330,000 international students are enrolled at German universities, but only 25 per cent of these will enter the German labour market. This is according to the HAW group, the member group of universities of applied sciences within the German Rectors’ Conference.
