DFG settles dispute with neuroscientist 

Eager to avoid “protracted legal dispute”, funder agrees to lift sanctions early in Birbauer case

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Germany’s largest public funder, has said it has settled a long-standing dispute with Tübingen-based brain researcher Niels Birbaumer over an application ban.

The DFG said the settlement largely keeps in place previous sanctions imposed on Birbauer for scientific misconduct, but reduces the mandated time during which they are to be imposed.
