German alliance urges preservation of “national peculiarities” in research evaluation

The Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany has warned against a general, Europe-wide harmonised system for research assessment.

Even though European research funding organisations share common values, “national peculiarities” are still important, the alliance said in a statement. The warning came after hundreds of academic organisations across Europe have committed to the European Commission’s plan to reform research assessment in the European Research Area.
