Council warns of ‘fragmented’ food sciences

WR urges restructuring to help Germany develop “socially acceptable” climate-friendly agriculture

A high-ranking advisory body in Germany has urged the government to back a “reorientation” of food and agricultural sciences to safeguard future food provision.

The German Science and Humanities Council (WR) released a milestone report this month, warning of fragmentation in the country’s food sciences. It identifies a “great need for action” in this discipline and adjacent ones to better meet the requirement of providing a safe and healthy food supply for the world’s population, while protecting the environment and the climate.
