Science ‘should have its own Sustainable Development Goal’

President of Germany’s DFG underlines importance of research to meeting UN goals

The president of the DFG, Germany’s largest public research funder, has proposed that the UN should create an extra Sustainable Development Goal to support science and research.

During a meeting held at the UN’s New York headquarters, Katja Becker stressed the importance of science and research in addressing global questions and meeting the 17 SDGs, which are intended to improve global health and wellbeing by 2030.
