SMEs need help, MEPs told

Many small businesses remain unaware or unclear about opportunities to take part in Horizon 2020, according to a report presented to the European Parliament.

The document, prepared for the Parliament’s Committee for Industry, Trade and Energy, states that despite the increased focus on small business participation under Horizon 2020, the programme still lacks a clear bonus or starting advantage for SMEs.

“In general, many innovative SMEs still seem to be reluctant to actually apply for EU programmes,” states the report. As result, member states should set up infrastructure to distribute information and providing consultancy support to tackle the problem, it says.
