Council supports plans to boost research cooperation

National science ministers have asked the European Commission to prepare roadmaps on how to cooperate with the EU’s main partners in research and innovation by the end of 2013.

According to member states, these multi-annual roadmaps should set out “priorities and instruments” for international cooperation under the next research programme, and therefore must correlate to the work programme for Horizon 2020.

The request was made in Council conclusions on international cooperation in research, adopted by national research ministers during a meeting of the Competitiveness Council on 30 May. The statement follows the publication of a communication on the subject by the Commission in September 2012.
