Ministers approve €3.8bn Copernicus budget

The Committee of Permanent Representatives has approved a 2014-20 budget of €3.8 billion for Copernicus, the EU’s Earth observation system.

On 20 December, the Council of Ministers’ Coreper I committee endorsed the agreement that had previously been reached by the Lithuanian presidency of the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament.

The Copernicus programme will replace the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme and support the implementation of the European space policy, Lithuanian minister of economy Evaldas Gustas said.
