Details emerge of regional Horizon 2020 projects

The European Commission is preparing a wish list of steps for regional authorities to take to try to make sure that EU structural funds are successfully combined with Horizon 2020 grants for research and innovation.

In a draft document seen by Research Europe, the Commission sets out numerous recommendations to synchronise the timing of structural fund allocation with Horizon 2020 calls. It also recommends the introduction of international evaluation systems for regional spending, promising to help regions to set up the necessary facilities.

Previously the Commission has said that it wants Structural Funds and Horizon 2020 grants to be used in combination to improve their effectiveness, but details on how this should be implemented have remained scarce.
