Swiss and Croats in joint training plan

Croatia and Switzerland are planning a joint €20 million bid to the European Commission for funding to set up a training centre for young Croatian researchers.

In a proposed application to the Commission’s Horizon 2020, the Ecole Polytechnique Federale in Lausanne is offering help in setting up a research centre in Croatia providing facilities for researchers working in areas of potential value to the national economy. The aim is also to reverse the “brain drain” of scientific talent from the EU’s newest member state to institutions in the West.

The EPFL has a strong reputation in developing strategies to support the careers of talented young researchers and would initially be responsible for managing the institution, in collaboration with Croatian scientific institutions.
