Foresight advisers call for experimentation in policy

The EU needs to introduce more flexibility in how it supports innovation, the European Commission has been told.

This is one of the recommendations listed in the report The Knowledge Future: Intelligent policy choices for Europe 2050, prepared by an expert group looking at foresight for research, innovation and higher education and published this month by the European Commission.

The report calls for greater freedom to experiment in different social and economic groupings, business and social models. This should include encouraging universities to diversify their income streams, whilst maintaining autonomy, as well as building "stronger regional innovation ecosystems" that involve public and private cooperation.
