Horizon 2020 top up planned in Poland

The Polish government has said it will provide additional funding to institutions taking part in Horizon 2020 projects, to encourage national groups to apply for EU grants.

The programme, announced on 8 December, is called Bonus on the Horizon. It is intended to make Horizon 2020 grants more attractive, the government said, given the fact that Polish scientists receive reduced salaries compared with western counterparts.

Centres which already receive €1 million of EU funding will receive funding at a rate of 25 per cent of the amount received under Horizon 2020. Other centres that receive less than €1m of EU funds will be granted a bonus equal to 20 per cent of EU funds allocated. The government is also granting a 10 per cent subsidy to add to European Research Council grants.
