The Human Brain Project is facing major funding issues over both its core support and its plan for partnerships, a report produced by a mediation committee has said.
The HBP is a €1 billion initiative to develop a computer model of the human brain. The project is structured in a core project—funded by about €500 million through Horizon 2020—, and several partnering projects, each to be supported by national governments and industry.
The mediation report, which was commissioned in response to criticisms of the project plan, was released on 19 March. It included a series of recommendations to reform the project and address criticisms put forward by a group of cognitive neuroscientists last July.
