The UK remains the top location for recipients of the European Research Council's grants, as it hosts 86 out of the 372 winners announced in the latest round.
But although UK institutions will host most winners of the ERC consolidator grants announced on 12 March—which go to mid-career researchers—the country of origin of the largest number of grantees is Germany, with 69, followed by France (44) and the UK (37).
The consolidator awards, which are available to scientists with between 7 and 12 years experience since obtaining their PhDs, were worth an average of €1.9 million each.
