Horizon 2020’s energy focus received a boost yesterday with the launch of three prizes that will honour the best ideas for integrating renewable power sources into buildings.
The three prizes, announced on 5 July by research commissioner Carlos Moedas, will have a combined budget of €3.25 million. The prizes are meant to stimulate fresh thinking among researchers by offering cash rewards—termed inducement prizes—for research teams that meet a given challenge most effectively.
The idea behind the prizes is to prescribe the outcome, but not the path to get there, Moedas said in a statement.
