The Council of the EU and the European Parliament have agreed a deal to set up a Mediterranean research initiative focusing on water and food production.
The initiative, known as PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area), will seek to build research capacity and develop innovative solutions for sustainable water management and food production across the region.
PRIMA will be allocated €220 million from the Horizon 2020 budget, according to a press release from the Council of the EU. The initiative’s overall budget is expected to be €400m, the rest of which will be made up with contributions from the participating countries.
