Moedas sets out priorities for AI and skills

Carlos Moedas, the EU’s research commissioner, has called on the EU to define a set of values for artificial intelligence and to train citizens in 21st-century skills.

Moedas was speaking at EPPTalks, a satellite event at the European People’s Party congress in Malta on 29 March. He argued that technology could make society more humane as long as the right political choices were made.

Moedas said that AI could either replace human intelligence or augment it, and that only a decision towards the latter would ensure “a brighter future”. He added that for this to happen, the EU “needs to define a set of values for AI”.
