New EU scheme should end special measures, universities say

Fund to support underperforming countries should be used to make such “widening” funds “redundant”

A new funding scheme being introduced to support underperforming countries in the EU’s next R&D programme should be used to make such “widening” funds “redundant” in the future, a university group has said.

The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities set out its views on the Excellence Initiatives scheme in a position paper it published on 23 September.
