Results of €5bn aviation project ‘irrelevant’, says EU R&D chief

Jean-Eric Paquet has dismissed the results of the CleanSky aviation R&D initiative

The public-private aviation partnership CleanSky, which has had a total budget of about €5.6 billion since 2008—including around €2.5bn of public funding—is not producing meaningful results, according to the European Commission’s top R&D official Jean-Eric Paquet.

“What’s happening in this partnership, in terms of aeronautics, is simply amazing,” Paquet said at the Commission’s Research and Innovation Days conference in Brussels on 26 September.
