Research leaders criticise silence on cost of joining Horizon Europe

Speculation and concern amid lack of information from Commission on association to R&D programme

Senior research figures have expressed frustration that countries outside the EU still do not know how much they will have to pay to participate in the bloc’s next R&D programme, as organisations left to estimate the cost themselves warn that it could be prohibitive. 

Kurt Deketelaere, secretary-general of the League of European Research Universities, told Research Europe it was “very annoying” that the European Commission has not clarified rules governing how non-EU countries will associate to the 2021-27 Horizon Europe programme.
