Gabriel: gender considerations ‘vital’ for research quality

Research commissioner ‘determined to step up’ gender action, while researcher group opens consultation on diversity

The EU R&D commissioner Mariya Gabriel has said the consideration of gender is “vital for the societal relevance and quality of research and innovation”, and that she is “determined to step up” efforts to ensure such considerations are made.

Her comments came in the foreword to a report that recommended such considerations should be a default requirement for call topics in the 2021-27 EU R&D programme, Horizon Europe.
