‘No budget, no R&D programme,’ warns top EU official

Jean-Eric Paquet says Polish and Hungarian veto on EU budget puts ‘high-value’ programmes at risk

The EU’s next R&D programme will not be able to start until a resolution is found to the deadlock on the bloc’s overarching budget for 2021-27, the European Commission’s top R&D official has warned.

“If there is no budget, there is no programme,” Jean-Eric Paquet said on 1 December at an event organised by news organisation Politico.
