Max Planck Society head calls for new process to replace recently departed Mauro Ferrari
The president of the Max Planck Society association of German research institutes has criticised the process that led to Mauro Ferrari’s appointment as president of the EU’s flagship European Research Council funder in January, only for him to quit in an apparent forced resignation just over three months later.
“The procedure used in the case of the successor to [two-term ERC president Jean-Pierre Bourguignon] is inadequate for recruiting an individual who is suited to such a prestigious position,” Martin Stratmann wrote in a statement published on 22 April, after Ferrari resigned with immediate effect on 7 April.
