Two-term ERC head worried about funder’s autonomy and budget

ERC agency staff were also ‘strained’ by leadership changes, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon says

A recent former president of the European Research Council has expressed regret that he was not able to secure more autonomy for the flagship EU science funder, as well as concern about its future budget.

Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, whose second term as ERC president ended in December last year, made the comments in a foreword to the funder’s 2019 annual report, published on 14 May.
