Riken network’s newly appointed international director wants to boost collaboration through Horizon Europe

The new director for international affairs at Japan’s largest conductor of basic and applied science—the Riken network of research centres—wants the organisation to increase its participation in the EU’s R&D programme.

Yuko Harayama, who took up her post at Riken on 1 April, said her eyes were opened to opportunities in the EU by her personal experience studying in Switzerland and France, and later working in Europe as deputy-director of science, technology and industry at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
