‘Determined’ MEPs begin attempt to raise EU R&D budget

European Parliament emphasises need to boost EU programme funding in budget negotiations

The first round of talks on the 2021-27 EU budget between the European Council, European Parliament and European Commission began on 27 August, with MEPs reaffirming their desire for changes including increased funding for the Horizon Europe R&D programme.

“Today, we, members of the European Parliament, will enter these long negotiations with ambition, determination and tenacity,” the negotiator on the budgets for the Renew Europe political group, MEP Valérie Hayer, said on the day talks got underway.
