Budget distributions ‘hardest part of Horizon Europe negotiations’

National politicians ‘determined’ to conclude remaining negotiations on EU R&D programme within weeks

Deciding how to distribute the budget for the EU’s 2021-27 R&D programme, Horizon Europe, among its various funding streams and instruments is the toughest part of the remaining negotiations on the programme, according to Germany’s research minister Anja Karliczek.

“This is the most difficult negotiation that we have because there are so many research areas, such a variety of programmes that are important,” Karliczek (pictured) told the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy on 1 September, at the committee’s first meeting after a month-long summer hiatus.
