ERC Advanced Grant applications up 42% on last year

  

Funder received 2,678 proposals, with the share from women increasing by 3 percentage points

Applications for European Research Council Advanced Grants, which fund high-risk research by well-established researchers, rose by 42 per cent in 2020, meaning even more applicants than normal look set to miss out on funding.

The scheme received 2,678 proposals for 2020, compared with 1,881 in 2019, the ERC announced on 1 September. The physical sciences and engineering domain received 1,175 applications, followed by 757 in the social sciences and humanities, and 746 in the life sciences.
