Swiss payment to EU insufficient to pave way for Horizon Europe association, says Commission

The European Commission has said a move by Switzerland to submit overdue contributions to the EU budget is not enough to restart negotiations on Swiss access to EU research funding and other programmes.

The Swiss government walked away from talks on an overarching relationship agreement with the EU in May, citing “substantial differences” on areas including citizens’ rights and state aid. To the consternation of universities in Switzerland and across Europe, this ended the near-term prospects for Swiss association to EU R&D programme Horizon Europe.
