European Research Council’s interim president leads chorus of concern over EU R&D programme

Delays signing off legislation for the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme are threatening to snowball into serious problems for research funding, with postponed calls and major headaches looming for crucial bodies such as the European Research Council.

Initially due to be ready on 1 January, Horizon Europe was formally launched on 2 February, after delays to the overall
EU budget for 2021-27 through which it is funded.
