ERC publishes ‘tentative’ 2022 funding call dates

Funder posts indicative dates to give potential applicants “an idea” of next year’s deadlines

The European Research Council has published what it described as “tentative” start dates and deadlines for its 2022 funding calls, saying it wanted to give potential applicants “an idea” of when to expect the dates, which have not yet been signed off.

“The Work Programme 2022 is not yet approved, thus the dates indicated for the 2022 calls are tentative and subject to change,” the ERC said on 31 March.

The dates for the 2022 calls, some of which which will open in 2021, differ from in normal years due to the knock-on effect of the recent start of the 2021-27 iteration of the EU R&D programme within which the ERC sits, Horizon Europe.

Unlike in normal years, no ERC Synergy Grants for collaborative projects nor Proof of Concept grants for exploring research commercialisation are to be awarded in 2021.

Instead, the ERC said the first Synergy Grant call under the Horizon Europe programme might open in July and close in November of 2021, while a Proof of Concept grant might open in July and close in October, with the awards to be made in 2022.
