Unproven environmental protection principle and lack of clarity over non-EU participation causing worry among companies
The industry lobby group Business Europe has expressed “great concern” about recent developments with the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme, around its environmental rules and international accessibility.
In a 9 June letter addressed to the European Commission’s top R&D official, Jean-Eric Paquet, the group’s director-general, Markus Beyrer, raised several concerns about the ‘do no significant harm’ environmental principle—an extra assessment criterion whose use in Horizon Europe was announced by the Commission in April, and which has already caused concern among MEPs and academic representatives.
