Draft budget allocates €12.2 billion for Horizon Europe—more than is planned for 2023

A draft EU budget for 2022 proposed by the European Commission has allocated €12.2 billion for the Horizon Europe R&D programme—more than is planned for 2023, in a change from the normal course of funding increasing in successive years of EU R&D programmes.

A further €1.8bn could also be added to Horizon Europe for 2022 from the bloc’s €750bn Covid-19 recovery fund, Next Generation EU, the Commission said on 8 June.
