Member states probe controversial plan to channel €1.65 billion in research cash to microchip projects
EU governments are set to demand that the bloc better define how it will use €1.65 billion from its research programme Horizon Europe to support a massive project to boost work on semiconductors.
In February, the European Commission proposed a huge package of actions intended to boost the EU’s production of microchips, which are increasingly indispensable to modern society but often manufactured in foreign countries, raising concerns over security and stability of supply.
