ERC sets out changes to grant proposal evaluations

President Maria Leptin says excellence matters but so does contribution to research community

The European Research Council has set out how it is changing its evaluation of funding proposals, so applicants can say more about their careers and “exceptional” contributions to the research community.

ERC president Maria Leptin (pictured) told Research Professional News that the funder “will not be proscriptive” in what counts as contributions to the community, and that the ERC will maintain its focus on funding excellence.
