Canada and New Zealand to enter formal association talks, amid questions over scope and speed

Canada and New Zealand look set to become the first countries from outside the European neighbourhood to join any of the EU’s vast research programmes since they started in the 1980s.

But questions remain about how much of the current Horizon Europe funding programme they are interested in securing such pay-to-play access to, and how quickly their researchers could complete competitive grant applications if they do formalise ‘association’ deals.
