Leading research committee member Christian Ehler says Commission is mishandling EU funder

The influential MEP Christian Ehler is stepping up his scrutiny of the EU’s European Innovation Council funder, which he says is “plagued by the self-inflicted implementation issues of the European Commission”.

The EIC became a fully fledged funder with the launch of the EU’s 2021-27 research and innovation funding programme, Horizon Europe, following several years of pilot operations. It has a remit to “identify, develop and scale up breakthrough technologies and game-changing innovations”, with a seven-year budget of about €10 billion deployed via various funding modes.
