Universities decry ‘increasingly complex’ Horizon Europe budget

Use of EU R&D funds for political priorities creates “uncertainty” for researchers, say university groups

The budget for the EU’s Horizon Europe R&D programme is becoming “increasingly complex” and “less transparent”, university groups have complained.

Groups led by the EuroTech Universities Alliance wrote to the European Commission on 27 June to lay out their concerns that the Horizon Europe budget was being used as a funding source for EU political priorities, the scope of which lay “outside of the programme”.
