Budgets committee paves way for Parliament to counter Council demand for cuts

The European Parliament is set to push for Horizon Europe to get a 2024 budget that is €140 million higher than the figure proposed by the European Commission—as opposed to the cuts sought by the Council of the EU member state governments.

On 2 October, the Parliament’s Committee on Budgets agreed that their institution should push for the higher sum for the EU’s research and innovation programme, as well as €100m more for its academic mobility programme, Erasmus+.
