EU approves end-stage talks on association to its research and innovation programme

Formal talks are set to take place on Japan and South Korea joining the EU’s research and innovation programme, Horizon Europe, after the bloc’s member states approved the move to the next phase of discussions.

Unlike for its previous R&I programmes, the EU has opened up Horizon Europe to countries beyond the European neighbourhood. Countries can pay to participate in parts of the programme, with New Zealand being the first to reach a deal.
