Justification for Horizon Europe cut ‘not plausible’, says lead MEP

European Parliament vice-president Victor Negrescu emphasises that EU R&I programme has “tangible impact”

The explanation given by EU governments for their attempt to cut the proposed 2025 budget of the bloc’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme is not believable, an MEP has complained.

Victor Negrescu (pictured), a vice-president of the European Parliament and rapporteur for the 2025 EU budget as a member of the Parliament’s budgets committee, issued a withering verdict on the governments’ position in an initial analysis published on 2 September.
