Josef Aschbacher appointed next Esa director-general, starting July 2021

The governing council of the European Space Agency has appointed Josef Aschbacher, Esa’s current director of Earth observation programmes, to lead the agency as its director-general from July 2021.

Aschbacher (pictured) was voted in at a 17 December session of the Esa Council, the agency’s executive body, which is made up of ministers from its 22 member states.
