Elsevier signs Dora declaration on research assessment

Company signs ‘as both a publisher and an organisation that supplies assessment tools and services’

The scholarly publishing and analytics company Elsevier has signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment, known as Dora, which aims to improve the evaluation of research outputs, including by moving evaluation away from a reliance on blunt use of publishing metrics.

Elsevier announced the move on 16 December, the eighth anniversary of the declaration. Its chief academic officer Nick Fowler said: “Elsevier is signing in its capacity as both a publisher and an organisation that supplies assessment tools and services. We commit to upholding all the recommendations relevant to those roles.”
