Infrastructure leader becomes head of Human Brain Project

Commission insider and head of an HBP applied research platform takes the top job

Paweł Świeboda has been appointed next director-general of the Human Brain Project, a 10-year, €1 billion EU R&D initiative seeking to understand, model and reverse-engineer the architecture of the human brain.

The appointment was announced on 17 June, the day it took effect. In May, Świeboda was appointed chief executive of an HBP research infrastructure called Ebrains, a role he will retain.
