Parliament vote to bring EU cybersecurity centre online

MEP says centre will help institutions shape European research priorities in “crucial” sector

The European Parliament has given the final approval to the creation of a central EU cybersecurity research centre in Bucharest, which will direct the use of relevant funding from the bloc’s R&D and digital programmes and oversee a network of similar centres at national level.

MEPs gave their assent on 20 May, after the proposal for the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre was backed by national government representatives in the Council of the EU on 20 April.
