‘Big investments’ needed to open up EU health data for research

Data can only be shared if Europe spends heavily on standardisation, says public-private R&D partnership

Europe must invest in common data models “at pace and scale” for research and healthcare to reap the rewards of pooled health data, according to an EU-funded public-private R&D partnership on medicines development.

Scientists working on Big Data for Better Outcomes, a research programme funded by the Innovative Medicines Initiative partnership, issued recommendations for policymakers’ plans for a European Health Data Space on 24 August.
