Preparation of Large Hadron Collider upgrade will be affected, say experiment heads

Cern’s decision to cut ties with Russia and Belarus in 2024 will affect a major upgrade of its Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator, according to the heads of the four largest-scale LHC experiments.

“There will clearly be effects” on the preparation of the upgrade, spokespeople for the Atlas, CMS, Alice and LHCb experiments told Research Professional News in a joint statement, adding that detection of collision outputs would also be affected, starting in 2024.
