
Association insists commercial publishing is “key” to open access, as EU pushes non-profit models
A group representing some of the largest scholarly publishers has defended the role of for-profit companies in the dissemination of research results, as the EU prepares to call for a “step up” in support for non-profit models.
The Council of the EU member state governments has provisionally agreed a position stating that immediate open access to papers reporting publicly funded research should become the norm (excerpts pictured).
